PROJECT INFORMATION
Following our contract for the Eton to Alligator Creek (Mackay) 132kV line in 2019, IPCQ has been awarded the Barron Gorge to Kamerunga 132kV Transmission Line Repaint Project. We are immensely proud of our team’s accomplishments in Mackay and look forward to delivering another project for our client, Downer Edi Engineering Power and the asset owner, Powerlink Queensland.

SCOPE OF WORKS
Commencing in June 2021, the objective of the works is to prolong the life of this critical Queensland electrical asset. Last painted over 17 years ago, IPCQ’s scope is to repair the existing damaged coatings and repaint the entire structural steel surface.
The transmission line is energised at 132kV and works within proximity to the energised apparatus are completed under a SAHVEA Access Permit issued by Powerlink Queensland.
The approved coating system is a vinyl painting system consisting of a zinc rich primer and a vinyl chloride undercoat & top coat.
IPCQ has mobilised an initial team of 18 specialised tower painting personnel. Working under the Wet Tropics Management Plan established by the WTMA and in accordance with the SAHVEA Access Permit, emphasis on health, safety & environment is paramount.
The transmission line is approximately 5.5km in length, consisting of 14 tension and 4 suspension structures constructed between the Kamerunga Substation and the Barron Gorge Hydro-electric Powerstation in the Cairns region, Far North Queensland.
Access to the towers is by 4wd vehicles and rail corridor access (provided by Queensland Rail).
