Monadelphous constructed two (2) new acid buffer tanks for the BHP Olympic Dam site in 2020/2021.
IPCQ was awarded the subcontract to encapsulate, blast & paint these tanks. The works were completed between February & May 2022 with a team of 7 mobilising to the South Australia site from Brisbane.
IPCQ undertook abrasive blasting and spray application of protective coatings to the external of two (2) newly constructed acid buffer tanks connecting to the existing operating acid plant.
Given that the tanks were live during the works, effective risk management and the highest degree of operator care was paramount to ensuring the successful delivery of the works.
Scaffold containment was constructed to ensure operations were not disrupted.
CONTAINMENT SYSTEMS
IPCQ installed full containment to the scaffolded areas to ensure that the site’s operations were not impacted by blast & paint works.
