Environmental

responsibility

Protecting assets while respecting the environment
Environmental responsibility is integrated into the way IPCQ plans and delivers every project. Our environmental management systems, containment controls and specialised technologies are designed to minimise emissions, reduce waste and protect the surrounding environment.

Our approach includes:
  • ISO 14001-certified environmental management systems
  • Project-specific environmental planning and risk controls
  • Encapsulation and containment of blasting and coating activities
  • Dust extraction and suppression systems
  • Protection of soil, stormwater and surrounding waterways
  • Responsible collection, transport and disposal of project waste
  • Recycling of steel-grit abrasive within our blasting facility
  • Selection of lower-impact surface preparation technologies where suitable
  • Ongoing environmental monitoring, inspection and reporting

At our Pinkenba facility, dust-generating activities are completed within controlled operational areas. Dedicated blast chambers, painting areas, extraction systems and waste-capture measures help minimise airborne emissions and prevent contaminants from leaving the work area.
Environmentally Relevant Activities
IPCQ holds Queensland Environmental Authority EA0002439 for mobile and temporary Environmentally Relevant Activities throughout Queensland.

The Environmental Authority covers:
  • ERA 38 – Surface Coating:coating, painting or powder coating activities using more than 100 tonnes of surface-coating materials in a year.
  • ERA 57 – Regulated Waste Transport:the controlled transport of regulated waste generated through our operations.

This authority supports IPCQ’s capacity to undertake major surface preparation and coating projects across Queensland while complying with defined environmental operating conditions.

Our work is supported by documented procedures and controls covering dust, air emissions, contaminated water, stormwater, noise and waste. Records are maintained in accordance with the Environmental Authority, and environmental performance is regularly reviewed as part of IPCQ’s integrated management system.
Induction Coating Removal
IPCQ continues to invest in technologies that can reduce the environmental impact of industrial coating removal.
Induction Coating Removal uses controlled induction heating to break the bond between a protective coating and the steel substrate. The disbonded coating can then be removed in sheets or sections, substantially reducing the dust, spent abrasive and clean-up waste associated with conventional removal methods.

Key environmental advantages can include:
  • No abrasive media required during the induction removal process
  • Minimal airborne dust
  • Significantly less waste for transport and disposal
  • Reduced containment and clean-up requirements
  • Virtually silent operation
  • Lower energy consumption than many conventional methods
  • Easier capture of removed coatings, including hazardous materials
  • Reduced risk of contaminants entering surrounding soil or waterways

The technology is particularly suited to pipelines, tanks, bridges, marine infrastructure and other steel assets located in operational or environmentally sensitive areas.

IPCQ provides Induction Coating Removal onsite and at our Pinkenba facility. Learn more about the technology at ACR Tech.

Through responsible planning, regulatory compliance and investment in safer, lower-impact technologies, IPCQ works to protect Australia’s critical assets without losing sight of the environment around them.
